Ace Steel was fired from AEW when he was a part of Brawl Out, a part in which he allegedly bit Kenny Omega on the arm during the chaos. Now, he is back with AEW, but he’s not on the road with the Collision roster. There is a reason for that.
CM Punk does not like the fact that Ace Steel is not on the road. He actually banned Christopher Daniels from Collision as well, which he sees as only fair. This is interesting, because Daniels is also AEW’s head of talent relations.
Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that Ace Steel was considered an “insurance risk” in AEW. That is why he’s not on the road, and Tony Khan was able to strike up a deal with him to help out in other ways.
Ace Steel was brought back to the company ahead of AEW Collision and is on the payroll, but he won’t be in the buildings and hasn’t been. Sources confirmed in May to Fightful that due to the Brawl Out situation, he was told that he was considered an “insurance risk,” and wouldn’t be permitted to attend the shows.
After months out of the fold, we’ve learned that Steel met with Tony Khan in recent months and spoke about wrestling. Ultimately it was decided that he could return to AEW in some capacity while not being on the road, and would be permitted to seek work outside of All Elite Wrestling as well. The word was that his deal is up in the Fall of 2024.
It was also noted that Ace Steel “supposedly confers on a lot of things, and having periodic conversations with Tony Khan, and suggesting things for CM Punk specifically. It was also suggested that he received back pay for the time that he was out.”
