Dimmu Borgir played a special 30-year anniversary set at the Beyond The Gates Festival over the weekend, and boy did they dig deep for a lot of their setlist. A lot of the tracks Dimmu Borgir haven’t been performed in over 10 years, with a few like “Dødsferd” and “Over bleknede blåner til dommedag” having been absent for literal decades. The show ran as follows:

In an interview from 2020, Dimmu Borgir guitarist Silenoz said that the band was working on new material. Silenoz notes that Dimmu Borgir was considering toning down the orchestrations and going for a stripped-down sound, but who knows how they feel now – that was three years ago.
“It’s obviously always strange to talk about it that early in the songwriting process, but I feel like it might be a little more stripped down. And that’s probably not saying too much, because we have so much of everything. But I feel like we’re looking at maybe toning it down a little bit, especially on the orchestral side. So people shouldn’t be too surprised if they get a bit more stripped-down version of Dimmu on the next album.”
