Dragon-Devouring Mage is yet another fantasy action manhwa with a Reincarnation plot, but the thing which sets it apart from the rest is the main character and his ways of getting stronger. Unlike many Manhwa protagonists, Russell Raymond suffers from a huge lack of strength at the start of the series.
Russell’s family Lineage also hinders his progress as he can’t hold a high amount of mana. Russell gets a second chance at life thanks to his mother’s ring, and this time, he will become the strongest!
Dragon-Devouring Mage Chapter 22: Recap
The chapter opens up with Russell suddenly getting bombarded with Light magic and Earth magic from all sides. Thanks to his Extraordinary skills and Pepper’s support, Russell not only manages to evade the attacks but he also fires them back at the attackers.
He then praises Pepper for helping him out. Russell then looks around to find the source of the attack, and he finds Coma and the other top students of the academy hiding in the forest.
Russell states that the people who claim to be the top students of the academy should never use such cowardly tactics. Coma gets furious after hearing Russell’s lecture, and so he asks him to just shut up and explain how he found the magic stone so quickly.
He thinks that the magic stone’s location was only shared with them, so it should have been impossible for anyone else to find it. Coma then notices Pepper, an elemental spirit besides Russell, and he immediately gets all the answers he was looking for, as an elemental spirit can easily track the magic stone.
The top students couldn’t believe that Russell was hiding skills of such a high level. Russell says that there’s nothing wrong with finding the stone quickly, but then he realizes that there must have been some backroom deals with the professors.
Coma gets annoyed by seeing how quick-witted Russell is. Russell says that he doesn’t want to get involved in their matter, so he would appreciate it if they didn’t interfere with him. The top students try to attack Russell, but he gets behind them in the blink of an eye. Pepper suddenly starts acting weird, and then Russell notices that the forest has started moving.
Russell asks the Students if they know anything about a destroyed golem’s core. They replied that the professors didn’t tell them anything about it, and they also felt it was a bit strange. Russell suddenly feels a strange presence in the surrounding, and so he warns everyone about something approaching them.
After a while, a group of undead come rushing from the forest, which scares everyone as the undead shouldn’t be in the forest. All the students think that they have to run away from this place, but there’s no way out. Russell realizes that they are all scared, so he takes the lead and raises a firewall to protect them.
Everyone realizes that Russell is a 4th circle mage and that they did a huge mistake by trying to attack him. Russell asks all of them to take a direction and attack the undead that manages to cross the wall. They don’t understand at first, but they eventually realize that they would have to follow Russell if they wanted to survive.
Russell thinks that they won’t survive for long as the firewall is temporary, so that it will go out. The only way to survive in this situation is to find the Sorcerer who raised the undead. Meanwhile, two mysterious characters look at Russell from the dark and wonder how he’ll win this time.
