Before achieving global fame as a wrestler and actor, John Cena faced challenging times that led him to live in his car in Los Angeles.
During a recent appearance on Kevin Hart’s show “Hart to Hart,” Cena opened up about the struggles he endured during that period of his life.
During this difficult phase, Cena found himself homeless, relying on the generosity of a local pizza shop to get by. The pizzeria had a unique challenge – if a customer could devour their entire pizza, it was free of charge. Cena, lacking the funds to pay for his meals, would eat a whole pizza each night to avoid the cost.
“They had a deal where, if you could eat their whole pizza, you got it for free. I used to eat there every night, a whole pizza, so I didn’t have to pay, because I didn’t have the money to pay the guy.”
Despite the hardships, Cena made the decision not to return to his parents’ home in West Newbury, Massachusetts. His father had offered a warm and supportive welcome, assuring Cena that he could always find refuge there. However, John Cena opted to stay on the challenging path he had chosen, determined to forge his own way.
“I’m very fortunate for my story because it was my choice to have hard times. My father always said, ‘You’re my son. I love you. You’re always welcome back home.’ If I could get to West Newbury, Massachusetts, I would be fed. I would have a roof over my head. I would be able to regroup. I chose to stay out.”
Cena’s story is a testament to his resilience and determination to carve out his destiny on his terms. It is a reminder that even in the face of adversity, choices can be made that lead to eventual success.
