Ghostface is officially returning for another go-around: Scream 7 is in development at Spyglass, as first reported by Bloody Disgusting. The sequel will feature a change in director, with Christopher Landon taking over from Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (together known as Radio Silence), who helmed the last two movies.

Landon is best known for directing the Happy Death Day series and the body-switching slasher Freaky. A veteran of horror franchises, he previously served as a writer on the Paranormal Activity movies.

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are stepping away as directors after rebooting the franchise with the fifth installment, 2022’s Scream, and returning for this year’s Scream 6. However, they will stay on as executive producers alongside their Radio Silence partner Chad Villella.

Scream 7 currently doesn’t have a writer attached, which won’t change until the writers strike is resolved. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick penned the scripts for the last two movies, but it’s also possible that Landon utilizes his past writing experience.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, current franchise stars Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, and Mason Gooding have yet to sign on for Scream 7, but are expected to return once the actors strike also reaches a resolution.

Scream 6 broke franchise records by raking in $168 million at the global box office. Its predecessor brought in $137.7 million globally.
