We’re going to explore the narratives that take us as viewers into the labyrinth of deceit, secrets, and heartbreaks that mold the characters as the series unfolds. Reader beware, there are some spoilers in this piece, and I don’t want to ruin the fun of watching this for you. So, if you haven’t seen this episode, watch it first and then come back to contrast your interpretation of the events with mine.

The Lost Flowers Of Alice Hart Episode 5 Recap

Alice leaves Thornfield because she’s fed up with Grandma June’s habit of keeping things secret. But Alice doesn’t know the full story as we do. The secrets she has found out are the tip of the iceberg. As it turns out, June’s habit of hiding truths is gradually coming around to bite her in the ass, and she’s going to pay the price by losing those she loves.

With hidden truths and deception, Alice manages to find some chill and downtime in the national park among some flower fields. She finds a deep connection with her mom. And since she knows a lot about flowers from her Thornfield days, that helps her secure the gig at the park.

In this episode, we also see Alice breaking up with Moss, she has the hots for Dylan, but she knows better because Lulu has warned her about him. Then, the episode moves to Twig, leaving Thornfield to find Alice and try to find out stuff about June’s secrecy. Twig reveals that it was June who had been messing around with Alice’s correspondence with Charlie.

But that’s not all because the episode adds even more layers of deception to June’s character when we learn about how Alice’s parents died.

Twig Finds Out Even More

Twig tracks down Alice with John. Alice has no idea of what’s going on at Thornfield because she’s building up a new life in Agnes Bluff. On the other side of things, Candy has a confrontation with June about her past, focusing on her relationship with Clem because, in a flashback scene, we see an underage Candy and an adult Clem that, tells us that there’s a sad story of sexual child abuse going on.

June’s punishment for Clem’s and Candy’s underage love entanglement leads to more problems, including Agnes’s arrival and her relationship with Clem. When June reveals to Candy that her actions were meant to protect her, we see —yet another— layer of June’s secretive ways.

The Lost Flowers Of Alice Hart Episode 5 Ending Explained

As Alice’s relationship with Dylan becomes more deep, Lulu’s warnings are an ominous Damocles’ sword hanging over Alice’s head. Dylan and Alice have a rift in their blossoming relationship when Alice talks to Dylan about his relationship with Lulu. Dylan spills the beans.

Alice opens up to Dylan about her past, confessing the horrifying truth about her abusive father and how she set their house on fire in an attempt to save her pregnant mother. Dylan’s comforting words seem to offer a glimmer of hope, but Lulu’s warning lingers, raising questions about Dylan’s true nature.

The Lost Flowers Of Alice Hart Episode 5 Review

This episode concludes with suspense, leaving me wondering whether or not Alice walked into a trap just like her mom. Did she escape from her secretive Grandma June only to end up with a man that behaves like her dad? If we look at it from a psychological perspective, it’s probable because of the cycles of abuse.

For one part, Dylan’s depth is seen when he reveals his hidden truths, but the scriptwriters have done a good job of letting us know with suspense if there’s more out there. In any case, the next episodes need to let us know a few things. After all, this is a show full of revelations, deceit, secrets, and drama, telling secrets of love —normal and forbidden—, redemption, and complex characters that battle their demons: Can they heal, or will they remain hurt?
