AEW is looking to sign up anyone they can that can bring interest to the company. Naturally, when a WWE Hall of Famer becomes a free agent, Tony Khan is interested, but that doesn’t mean there is always support from all over behind his decisions.
CM Punk’s tenure with All Elite Wrestling since 2021 stirred up numerous controversies. Now, Gangrel is of the opinion that his former tag team partner, Edge, should opt to stick with WWE to avoid encountering similar controversies as Punk.
During the August 18th episode of SmackDown, Edge beat Sheamus in what was the final match of his WWE contract. Speculation has been strong that the 49-year-old may choose to continue his wrestling journey with AEW.
On his Fangin N Bangin podcast, Gangrel drew parallels to CM Punk’s tumultuous experiences while discussing Edge’s potential next career move. He then expressed a hope that Edge doesn’t end up like Punk.
“I just think why [would Edge join AEW]? That’s all. He’s Edge. What else are you gonna do? You’re Edge, you’re one of the greatest human beings in the world. I don’t wanna see him go there and become like how everybody looks at CM Punk or everything. It seems like it’s turmoil and chaos, but maybe he can turn all that around.”
Ringside News exclusively reported that there is belief within WWE that Edge is on his way to AEW. It was later reported that the same thought of Edge coming to AEW is present within Tony Khan’s company as well.
Edge went on to deny that there are any issues between him and WWE. He also said that he has a contract renewal in his inbox. At this time, he said he doesn’t know what to do. Only time will tell what he lands on.
